EFFICIENCY LIMITING FACTORS OF PETROCHEMICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT USING HYBRID BIOLOGICAL REACTOR

The wastewater characteristics and some operational control parameters limit the efficiency of attached growth processes for petrochemical treatment. This study aims to determine a hybrid biological reactor treating actual identify determining factors. An up-flow filled with bio-career was operated at two flow rates, dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, under anaerobic conditions. Due varying wastewater, limitations were manifested in many ways. However, highest chemical demand biochemical (BOD) removal efficiencies 77.2% 78.5%, respectively, achieved aerobic operation organic loading rates (OLRs) 0.2 kg-COD/m3/d hydraulic retention time (HRT) 26.67 h (DO 4.0 mg/l). Anaerobically, 41.7 both 0.18 400 ml/min. total carbon (TOC) stability attributed presence toxic chemicals mechanisms other than biodegradation, as it tapered off high loading. nutrient marginal, conceivably due organics ratio conditions promoting inside biofilm.
